Australian Fauna Candle - Kookaburra

Kookaburras are the largest of the kingfishers standing at around 47cm tall. They don’t actually eat fish, opting for a meat based diet instead of worms, insects, mice and lizards. They don’t need to drink water as they get all the water they need from their food. Pairs bond for life, females lay between 1-4 eggs which are incubated in the nest for around 24 days. They live in families and older siblings help raise the young chicks. Native to the eucalypt forests found throughout eastern Australia they can be found in many coastal towns and backyards. Famous for their “laugh” which is actually a call to alert other kookaburras that this is their territory.
